2019 BEANZ Workshop: Plants
Region: Northland Date: Fri 22 Oct Time: 10am – 2:30 pm
Venue: Northland College, 62 Mangakahia Rd, Kaikohe
Parking: plenty on-site
Following the learning at SciCon, the BEANZ Regional Reps have developed a workshop for their Biology colleagues. We will explore how we can use plants more in our teaching:
- The Future of Plant Biology
- Issues with respect to EOTC – please think about the providers you have worked with and enter details on our spreadsheet
- Plant practicals – several pracs to try, catering for needs of both new & experienced teachers
- Each teacher to share a resource they have found successful
This workshop is part of BEANZ’s professional learning support for all Biology educators so there is no cost to attend. We want these workshops to be useful for Biology teachers in CIE & IB programs, so there will be little focus on assessments.
Please bring
- your laptop (you may want to make a note in your diary to charge it up the night before).
- your lunch or $ to buy some. A small morning tea is provided
- one resource or idea to share (the more people who do this the more each participant will get out of the session). Please don’t think it’s not good enough. If it worked well for your students, chances are high that it will be useful for others.
- any resources you think may be useful in the context we are using
- your ideas on what you want next from your local BEANZ Biology cluster. Please have a think about this as BEANZ is keen and now able to better support the regions.
A small morning tea will be provided, but please bring your own lunch. All resources from the workshop will be made available to registered participants via a shared Google Drive.
Please register by emailing Mike mikhal@actrix.co.nz prior to 20 Nov (to allow enough time for photocopying & food prep). Please do not wait til you get permission (we can pencil you in & adjust when you confirm later) as it gives us a better forecast of numbers.
BEANZ is looking for a regional rep for Northland. This would involve helping to organise the regional workshop, attending regional rep hui, and facilitating workshop if and when ready. Please think about this.
