Can you help?

  1. For an NZASE newsletter article I’m hoping to talk with teachers who have had scientists work with their students. If you can help please email me nzasecomms@gmail.com

MoE & NZQA

  1. With teams of subject experts, MoE has been working on developing new achievement standards in Bio, Chem, Phys & ESS to sit alongside the Science standards developed last year. [All in use 2023.] The 1st batch of draft materials will be out soon for your perusal.

Technicians

  1. Tested ideas for heat investigations discussed on the technician’s list-serve recently:
    • Use infrared thermometer guns on different coloured cars in the carpark
    • Penguin analogy. In a large beaker snuggly pack test tubes filled with hot water. Leave. Measure water temp of outer- & inner-most test tubes to find the gradient.
    • Make solar oven, covered in tin foil, to heat a beaker of water. Measure temp increase over time.

Cheers, Mike
