Can you help?

  1. MOTAT is developing a SciTech Centre to open 2024, to provide interactive, engaging STEM experiences. They would like a group of teachers (among others) to help them, meeting F2F & online 3-4 times for 2h each, with an intro this term. If you are a primary or intermediate teacher with a passion for teaching Science and/or Technology & would like to be involved please contact Sandy.
  2. The Education Hub is seeking feedback on how teachers use The Education Hub and what would make you likely to engage with them more often. Please complete survey here.
  3. MoE is looking for science teachers to work with the Curriculum refresh team. However MoE will only accept nominations of teachers who are endorsed by NZASE. More info here.

Professional Learning & Development (PLD) Opportunities

  1. Apply for Regionally allocated PLD by Nov 4. You will be notified of the outcome by wk 8 so you can contact PLD facilitator & plan to start delivery next term. Schools can apply for this PLD to support the implementation of NCEA (under the ‘Local Curriculum Design’ priority).
  2. PLD from Kohia Teacher’s Centre, Gate 2, 76 Epsom Ave, Epsom:
  3. Science Learning Hub webinar: Digital Tools for Science Learning. Stephen Ross will show us easy-to-use digital tools that can engage students in real time data collection. Th 3 Nov 4-4:45pm

Technicians

  1. On FB: “If you take dried moss on a stick and put it in water for a few days then look under the scope you can see tardigrades.” Wikipedia suggests this is true! My useless fact for the day.

Cheers, Mike
